Please Help to Free A Course in Miracles from Control by FACIM

A Course In Miracles is a divine masterpiece given to mankind as a mind training procedure for the awakening of the human species

People from all over the world, from all walks of life use the divine masterpiece, called "A Course in Miracles" by Jesus of Nazareth, as teachers and students to free themselves and others and to awaken through miracles and the grace of God to who they really are. They should be free to use it for their purpose as stated in the Course, including dissemination, advertising and translation in order to share this message of salvation with all the world, don't you think? They must be allowed to do this, especially since A Course in Miracles entered the public domain in 2003. The Foundation for A Course in Miracles thinks otherwise. We at Neue Christliche Akademie Endeavor Academy e.V., Germany are acting within the principle of "fair use" and are a non-profit organisation, yet we are sued for copyright infringement by the Foundation.

Hereby I present the letter by Gerhard Frank, administrator at Neue Christliche Akademie Endeavor Academy e.V., in which he asks for your support in this case:

"Support Neue Christliche Akademie Endeavor Academy e.V. in the lawsuit by the Foundation for A Course In Miracles over A Course In Miracles copyright in Germany.

A call for help...

We, Neue Christliche Akademie Endeavor Academy e.V. (“EA”), Wusterwitz, Germany, are reaching out to the international community of students and teachers of A Course in Miracles to ask for financial support in conducting a defense in a lawsuit initiated by the Foundation for A Course in Miracles (“FACIM”), Temecula, California, USA, before the District Court in Frankfurt, Germany.

FACIM requests the court to order us to refrain from using our brochures in English and German, containing passages from A Course In Miracles.

FACIM bases its claims on the validity of its A Course in Miracles copyright in Germany, notwithstanding the invalidation of its copyright in the United States in 2003.

Another lawsuit concerning the copyright of A Course in Miracles?

Yes, another lawsuit about what we thought was decided in favor of the freedom of A Course in Miracles.

In 2003 New York Judge Robert W. Sweet rendered FACIM’s copyright in the United States invalid on the grounds of pre-publication distribution and A Course in Miracles thus entered the public domain.

In the present lawsuit FACIM takes the position that the invalidity of its copyright in the United States, on the ground of a “formality” as pre-publication distribution, did however not affect the validity of its copyright in Germany, because

i. pursuant to the international copyright treaty of Berne (the Berne Convention) FACIM could yet claim a valid copyright in Germany in accordance with German copyright law and

ii. German copyright law would indeed recognize FACIM as being entitled to the copyright to A Course in Miracles.

EA’s defense against this position is, fundamentally, that the invalidation of FACIM’s United States copyright and the fact that A Course in Miracles consequently entered the public domain, in effect stand in the way of FACIM still claiming a copyright in Germany or any other country which is part of the Berne Convention.

Why is this lawsuit important?

EA represents the purpose of the transformation of mind through A Course In Miracles. That is why we have felt it to be our responsibility to seek legal representation in the lawsuit and aim at a denial of FACIM’s claims, as those claims purport to limit us in using A Course in Miracles online and in printed material such as for invitations to our Advents of A Great Awakening.

But the outcome of this lawsuit goes out over what might be considered the interests of EA. A judgment in favor of EA is likely to set a precedent for any future A Course in Miracles copyright issues in all of the 166 countries which have subscribed to the Berne Convention. As students and teachers of A Course in Miracles we share our need to teach the Course in order to learn it. And we should be free to use what has been given us to share with anyone who is interested and wants to apply it. ‘Fair use’ provisions in applicable law should be available to us and rights to our own translations to secure more affordable prices of A Course in Miracles in various countries.

A Course In Miracles - Unlimited Potential

What do we really want at the end of the day?

It is funny to see some of the responses to our efforts of offering and teaching A Course In Miracles, of which A Course In Miracles Unleashed is a part. Someone said that A Course In Miracles should not be promoted or distributed. Only the love and light of the miracle workers - probably those who work the Course - should enrich the lives of people.

There is no question that everyone who needs to find A Course In Miracles, will find it and be healed by it. There is a plan, and this plan will not fail. Yet that does not mean that this Course is not for everyone to use, and by applying it, to be healed. The very introduction says, it is a "required course". Free will means only that we may elect what we want to take at a given time, but not that we can establish the curriculum. Only the time we take it is up to us.

This means that everyone is a miracle worker, and that everyone has literally everything to give to everyone. Until we do this, we obviously will see ourselves deprived, trapped in a false identity by our own beliefs. A Course In Miracles Unleashed is an attempt to share our love for and experience with A Course In Miracles at a certain moment in time. We are a demonstration that the Course works: everyone will learn it who wants to learn it. Of course, there could be hundreds of documentaries like ours, witnessing to the healing power of love as practiced through this masterpiece of enlightened Mind, all different yet presenting the same message. The message of our film is the message of A Course In Miracles: You are not a body. You are free. You are still as God created you, free of guilt and sin, because you made up this world in your mind, and it is not true and without effect upon reality. You will have to come to know yourself, meaning to wake up from this dream and remember your Source.

The Course needs dedicated teachers, needs dedicated students to come to fruition, because as we teach it, we learn it. The Course is so rich and versatile in application with a lesson for every day of a year that everyone would find it helpful, if he only used it. Why this Course should be kept under our pillows in secret, is not understandable to me. There are teachers who seem to think that it is only for an elite of minds, but this idea is not justified by what Jesus himself says in the Course. The Course is so much more than what we see through our limited perception. We should not limit the miracle itself, because there is no order of difficulty in miracles. And yes, it is a paradox. It is my dream only. Only I need to hear it. There is no world, so to whom do I want to offer the Course except to myself? Yes, and I still have to do it, and everyone in this world is me.

"Every response you make is determined by what you think you are, and what you want to be is what you think you are. What you want to be, then, must determine every response you make."
A Course In Miracles, Chapter 7.VII, The Totality of the Kingdom

Where else in the world does one find, who else does say stuff like this? What do you want to be? Never mind what you think. What do you want to be? Let go of all else and want to be who you really are, whole and perfect. At the end of the day you want nothing else, and there is nothing else. There is no limit to the healing that will come to you and your world in your single desire for truth. Since there is no order of difficulty in miracles, you are literally faced with unlimited possibility.

Screening at the 2009 Parliament of the World's Religions

Our A Course In Miracles Unleashed movie got accepted to be screened at the 2009 Parliament of the World's Religions in December in Melbourne, Australia as part of the 7-day program. Filmmaker Cameron Kennedy, Ellie Kennedy and Kristen Kloostra who are in the film, as well as Elbert Kloostra will travel to Melbourne to present the film as well as A Course In Miracles as an experience that is our awakening from our human identity to who we really are as God's perfect creations.

The excitement is to present a message and offering that will actually transform all of our separate identities of different cultures and religions into one holographic experience of a new world that is not bound by our old ideas about ourselves, but is an expression of the peace of mind that we all seek. That is what A Course In Miracles is all about. May it help us to realize that we all share the same core values to which we give priority over all other ideas in order to remember our shared identity as one mind and Son of God.

A Course In Miracles Unleashed in Different Languages

A Course In Miracles Unleashed just had its Dutch premiere. The film was shown with Dutch subtitles in Utrecht on May 24, 2009. Soon, there also will be a Swedish, Croatian and French translation available. So far, we had it in English, Spanish, Polish and German. All translations are and will be done with subtitles.

What Brings about Enlightenment?

A friend of mine said, he did not actually awaken through A Course In Miracles, but through the help of Master Teacher. He said that Master Teacher literally changed his brain and mind through his powerful energy. "That was it."

As Joe M. says in the film, some get it through doing the daily lessons, through sudden experiences, some at point of death, rising and coming back to teach the Course, or through a combination of it. While there is no doubt that awakening is individual and personal, and that Master Teacher played a vital part in my awakening, I would like to emphasize another aspect that I think is often overlooked or even denied.

You can hear people say, almost defensively, that A Course In Miracles is a self-study program. That you should not depend on anyone else and better stay away from a group, because, as workbook lesson 70 says, "Salvation comes from me." I have seen the statement of the Course, "The sole responsibility of the miracle worker is to accept the Atonement for himself.", interpreted in such a way that it would tell us that "God’s teacher must work alone." This reading again would lead to the old idea that one has to remove himself from the world and any association in order to reach enlightenment. This approach, however, has proven itself to be "extremely difficult" and time consuming. One may try to escape the trap of relying on a group or leader while failing to find the truth within, but at what cost? Maybe falling into the trap of thinking that he is really doing something?

I say the idea of autonomous enlightenment is false. One is not alone, therefore one cannot reach enlightenment alone. A Course In Miracles is not concerned with behavior at all, nor with places, nor with associations to which one may belong. But it is explicit in telling what is essential for our learning and laying out the means of how we reach our goal. In the intro to the Manual for Teachers it says, that "To teach is to demonstrate." What is one demonstrating or to demonstrate?

"There are only two thought systems, and you demonstrate that you believe one or the other is true all the time. From your demonstration others learn, and so do you. The question is not whether you will teach, for in that there is no choice. The purpose of the course might be said to provide you with a means of choosing what you want to teach on the basis of what you want to learn."

This clearly tells us that what I learn depends only on the thought system I believe to be true. What I believe governs everything I experience and do in time and space. Therefore, change and transformation is only a question of changing my mind and aligning myself with the truth. No one can do it for me, nor can anyone or anything prevent me from doing it. It says however that one learns from the demonstrations of others. Here is the part we play for each other. An older, more mature consciousness and brother can be of great help if one is open to the demonstrations of a mind that no longer is fooled by the illusion of this world, but is in continuous conversion of it. That was and is Master Teacher for me, or anyone who no longer swears to die.

But that is not my main point. My emphasis goes to the importance of being with your brother. What does that mean? The Course talks about "the special means this course is using to save you time."

"One instant spent together with your brother restores the universe to both of you. You are prepared. Now you need but to remember you need do nothing. It would be far more profitable now merely to concentrate on this than to consider what you should do. When peace comes at last to those who wrestle with temptation and fight against the giving in to sin; when the light comes at last into the mind given to contemplation; or when the goal is finally achieved by anyone, it always comes with just one happy realization; "I need do nothing."

Here is the ultimate release which everyone will one day find in his own way, at his own time. You do not need this time. Time has been saved for you because you and your brother are together. This is the special means this course is using to save you time. You are not making use of the course if you insist on using means which have served others well, neglecting what was made for you."

Time has been saved for me, because me and my brother are together. I am saved. It's a miracle. I seem to be a separate thing, apart from my brother, but a holy instant with my brother restores the universe, my whole mind, to both of us. And that is what the lessons of the workbook are aiming at: undoing our belief and investment in the body, so that a new vision can be given us to heal our minds.

You cannot overestimate the value of your brother. Stay together, and love one another.
